It is with great sadness that we wanted to share the passing of our Disneyana Fan Club Legend Charles Ridgeway.
After a career as a journalist (during which he covered Disneyland’s opening day), Charles Ridgway joined Disney in 1963 as a publicist at Disneyland. He became publicity supervisor in 1966, and held that position until 1969, when he was named publicity manager for Walt Disney World, which was then under construction. He served as director of publicity from 1982 to 1993. During the construction of Disneyland Paris, he was the Park’s director of publicity and oversaw the grand opening. Over the years, Charlie was involved in more than 165 press events, including the openings of Walt Disney World, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, 17 Disney World resorts, Downtown Disney and Pleasure Island, as well as the launch of the Disney Cruise Line. He wrote about his career in his 2007 book, Spinning Disney’s World.
